How does a retired sorority girl make girl friends in the young professional world?

I feel silly asking this, but I just graduated from university where I was a member of a sorority, and many other groups and organizations on campus. To say the least, I had an extremely close knit group of girl friends up there. We did everything together from movies to pubs, sporting events to amusement parks. I definitely feel like I've made friends for life. However, we're all now separated by a good amount of distance, but keeping in touch and visiting whenever possible.

My question is, as a young professional fresh out of college and living hours away from some of my best friends, how do I go about making new, local female friends? This may sound lame, but I miss just going out and kicking back with a group of awesome girls, and find it hard now that I don't have the college social network to help me.

Ideas from people who have been there? :)How does a retired sorority girl make girl friends in the young professional world?
Take a look around town for young professionals' clubs. I know in our town, there is a club for professionals younger than 35 who support Shakespeare on the Green every summer. They do fundraisers and community education, etc.

There are also clubs for cycling. They meet once a week at a designated point, bike down the bike trail to the bar, get a bunch of drinks and Mexican food and bike back together.

There's also the Hash House Harriers, a running and drinking club, or ';A drinking club with a running problem';.

There are lots of ways to find other people who like to do the same things you do. Watch the local newspaper for upcoming events, club meetings, etc. I'm sure you'll find something really soon! How does a retired sorority girl make girl friends in the young professional world?
Join something else. Usually the bond comes from working on the same projects...then kicking back afterwards.

You can give your time to a homeless shelter, a historical society or a church and any of those places usually has a good number of ';joiners,'; people who like to be with others, accomplish a goal, and help others.
