Why Can't I just be friends with a girl?

I believe a guy can be a good friend to a girl without any intention of getting into her pants. And when I see girls I kinda label them into 2 categories. One, who I want to develop a romantic relation, and two, who i just want to remain as friends, like guy friends with who i can just crack jokes.





Unintentionally, I am a lot more comfortable with girls that I want to remain as friends. And unfortunately, they seem to get the vibes as if I do want to develop a relationship, which is not the case with them.





I don't believe I do anything to lead them this way. I mean, I just make jokes and make fun of them etc. and they apparently find it interesting.





I find this very annoying, with the girls I want to develop a romantic relationship, I feel rather distanced. But with the girls I want to remain as friends, they seem to be mislead by something, which is my normal behavior.





I want to ask girls how to remain friends, not by telling them I want to remain as friends but by implying with faces and body motions and little implications or whatever I have to do so that I dont sound to arrogant.
